[18+] Some Secrets [r. Midsummer] Should Remain Lost

Post by Master of Shadows » Mon Aug 28, 2017 10:39 pm

At the edge of the hellfire,
in the line of the gunfire,
I witnessed the death of a desire.

Life could be a cruel mistress at times, and Clayton had learned this firsthand. He once had dreams and aspirations, just like any other mortal man, but in an instant everything had been thrown away. All it took was one mission going badly. His squad and him hadn’t been warned about the things that had populated the colony...The things that had dragged him screaming into the depths of their nightmaresque nest, hell bent on turning him into one of them.

While he had been rescued, it hadn’t been quick enough and many times he wished they’d left him to die. The military knew of the threat, even had a name for it, and had wanted living subjects to experiment on in order to learn to stop the changes the Xenomorphs could induce. Unfortunately, Clayton and his squad happened to pull the short straw, but Clayton had pulled the shortest of them all.

The others in his squad who’d survived, had been put into stasis for later but he had been allowed to progress with his change. Initially, he’d been told that they were trying to stop it. However, with each progressive sloughing off of his skin, the idea held less and less water. Of course, the constant testing they subjected him to hadn’t helped, either.

The changes he went through had started out as physical, the human skin being shed and gradually replaced by the matte black exoskeleton of the creatures. For the scientists, it was interesting since it had been limited to his lower arms and everything below the waist. Clayton had been less enthused with the notion and had found the changes to be horrific. As if that hadn’t been enough, his blood had adopted the high acidity of the Xenomorph species which made blood testing impossible after a short while.

As the physical changes progressed, so did the mental ones. Clayton slowly shifted to having more of a short, volatile temper and was prone to violent outbursts when he felt threatened. Then there were the voices. Nothing concrete, just whispers of…Something. For him, the voices were arguably more terrifying than the changes he’d gone through.

Eventually though, the scientists at the first lab got tired of dealing with him and, presumably, had learned everything they wanted. So, he was shoved into a stasis tube for only gods knew how long until they needed him again. The short death, as those in the military tended to call it.

The last thing that he could recall was the cold of the stasis enveloping him and crushing down on his chest to the point he couldn’t breathe. An instant later, he was gasping for air and flopping around on the floor. Emergency stasis dump, because he knew damn well they weren’t going to release him without a lot of security around. The problem was, emergency stasis dumps only happened if there was some sort of error.

After a healthy few coughs, he pushed himself up into a sitting position and blearily took note of his surroundings. He was still on the ship, but instead of the bright white lights that would be expected, the red emergency backup lights were on. Lightly, he twitched his tail and brought it closer to himself. Faintly, he could hear the computerized emergency voice repeating something, but it was garbled.

“Fan-fucking-tastic.” Clayton muttered while he pushed himself up to his feet. The air smelled stale and he felt as if he needed to breathe deeper than what he should. Probably meant that the atmosphere was thin, this in of itself was cause for concern. Did something happen? Moving to the door, he touched the pad to get it to open, but only got a garbled buzzing noise. Locked still. With that option out, he scanned the room and his eyes finally landed on an air vent grate. Oh, goddammit.

If there was one thing he’d developed during this whole mess, it was a healthy dislike of small spaces. Unfortunately for him, it was either stay in the room and probably die or grow a pair and get into the damn vent. Since slowly dying of starvation didn’t sound all that appealing, Clayton worked to pull the vent cover off and with a mumbled curse, climbed into the vent.

It was only after he explored the transport that he discovered that the crew had been killed. If the dried out, but opened egg in one of the holding rooms had been any indication, someone had gotten infected. This meant that the adult Xenomorph could still be lurking around…If it hadn’t died from starvation, at least. The bodies were old and mostly decomposed, so their deaths had happened a few weeks ago at minimum and he wasn’t sure how long a Xenomorph could go without food. Then again, he couldn’t be sure how old the bodies were. It was hard to tell with how climate controlled ships tended to be.

Clayton started towards the bridge with the intent to try and pull up information on the date, and maybe see if he could get the ship back online. However, the sound of a ship docking echoed through the hallway he was in. The sound was a grating, metallic screech that made him wince. Likely, a distress signal had been broadcasted when everything went down. Ducking back into the vents, he chose to wait. Perhaps he could sneak aboard the other ship.

I’m falling into the unknown,
another ending that’s beginning to unfold.
War is coming swiftly... ..You don't know my power... I will resist and bite.

The name Farrington was a name of success, especially in the field of xenology, it anything in the field of the extraterrestrial, really. Robert had grown up with the same pressure on his shoulders. Life had handed him an easy path: to follow in his parents' footsteps, to be a scientist. To study other life forms, to fight against them, even. However, the journey itself wasn't all daisies and flowers. His yellow brick road was something far harder than he had expected. Graduating at the top of his grade was a must, learning as fast as he could was second. Then last, was to make a name for himself.

He was honestly glad, and lucky, that he managed to get a job as an assistant for one of the ships that went out in the orbit. The Abyss was a beautiful being, in his eyes at least, and home to many test subjects he took notes on from the sidelines. She was a large ship, built to hold an least fifty different species and a skeleton crew of thirty. There were more of them, of course, so he was allowed to observe and learn all he wanted, as they were within the protection of a military squad that was sent with the ship.

However, the real ordeal started just a few months ago.

Due to his potential, as his superiors called it, Robert was sent over as an apprentice on one of the three biggest Deep Space ships. Gabriel was ten times larger than Abyss and had a whole section of creatures stuck in stasis in one wing. Of course, when he arrived, there was that odd feeling of confusion upon seeing the spliced Xenomorph-humans, but he paid them to mind after learning the tragic truth about them. Instead, he worked down in the documents room, locked away as he tried to make sense of the data assignment he was given in reversing the effects of the transformation. They did come upon a few breakthroughs, though it seemed that some of the samples couldn't handle it. It made him grimace most of the time. "They're barely human, so you don't have to worry." He had to keep repeating to himself, as he put together more and more vials of chemicals that were meant to cut the DNA.

Which is why he was here, hidden in the documents room as he breathed in through his oxygen reservoir. "Tsk. Damn it. Damn it." He had been sending distress calls for the past ten hours, and still, no one had answered his calls. Robert was getting desperate, and while his panic had waned out, he was still in the red.

"Shit." He swore softly, trying to find a weapon. Just then, a metallic screech reverberated through the floor. He guessed that another ship must've landed. He ran the escape route through his head. It was only fifteen minutes off if he walked, probably. Taking a deep breath, he peeled the mask of, opened the door and ran.

He knew he was no match for anything, but he still ran, until the sound of bullets flying through the enclosed system lingered in the air. He heaved a breath. It was the Abyss. "Oh god. Terry!! Help!!" He yelled, watching an the squadron leader shot volley after volley in the things trying to catch him. He made a mad dash inside, wheezing from the lack of oxygen and he tried to get breath into his lungs. The crew had tried scanning the ship for any more human life and found none. Now, they were scrambling to get back in the ship and open the doors, trying to abandon Gabriel before any of those things get on ship.

Crew members had asked him if he was alright, but Robert barely gave them and answer, nauseous from the lack of oxygen. He did see that the crew seems lesser than before, which probably meant that they were breached as well, especially if they were down to the skeleton crew. His head lolled to the side, catching a glimpse of the outside as their squad began firing rounds on the creatures that tried to get on the ship. He vaguely recalled the back entrance opening automatically, as the norm with their ship's model, but he couldn't speak.

The members seemed to understand though, because the moment their systems waned them about the back door, where they unload some of the samples, opening, someone ran to the consoles and began to close it immediately. He sighed through his nose, feeling his cheeks get a little more color as oxygen seeped back into his system. Finally, when he was able to breathe, he wheezed. "Spliced squads." He began, coughing into his palm.

"One of the formulas. It got mad. Instead—" He cut himself off with a choked cough, lungs still not working properly at he tried to get all his words out. "—broke into the vents. Got a hold of doctor Martys and Haynes. I got away." He said after a while, rubbing his chest as he tried to stand up. Finally, the doors slammed shut and the Abyss escaped, setting the ship en route, via control, to the nearest black hole.

The sudden sound of gunfire made him flinch. Partly from the vents magnifying sounds and partly from what had happened the last time he heard gunfire. Under the sound of the weapons fire, he heard the screech of Xenomorphs and something in between. Apparently, the fuckers had lived or he was grossly wrong on how long the bodies had been dead. Whatever. He wasn't going to think about it for too long since getting onto the other ship was more important.

Quickly, he navigated the maze of air vents and worked his way away from the gunfire. Taking that route would be sheer suicide. Normally, transport ships had multiple boarding areas, especially if they were going to be loading cargo. Slipping back out of the vents, he navigated the corridors, some of which showed damage. Where was the damned door? It was bound to be on this side of the ship.

Turning the corner, he stared at the loading bay door...And at it starting to close. Cursing under his breath, he bolted forward and barely managed to get through the door without losing his tail. However, the action caused him to take a bit of a tumble due to inadvertently unbalancing himself. With a sigh, he pushed himself back up to his feet and lightly rubbed his shoulder. That was likely gong to bruise.

This ship seemed to be a bit similar as the prior one, at least from what he could see. Better oxygen levels, in any case. Prying a vent cover off, he slipped inside, but then managed to twist himself around to pull the grate back on. There wasn't any need to let them know that he'd stored away. Turning back around he started making his way through the vents.

Maybe he could find some food.

He was glad when he found out that his old room had been untouched, and was definitely glad for the company. So after a quick trip to the medical bay, with a few stitches and a new pair of glasses on the way, they sent him back to his old room, promising to bring him food. Robert remembered that he liked this ship because despite being tight-knit, on one really bothered anyone unless they actually needed to. He sighed, wincing slightly as he propped his foot up, wincing at he stared at the damage on his body.

He had a few scrapes, some acid-burned flesh and a sprained foot, from tumbling in the ship. He was too pumped up on adrenalin to actually notice until the nurse bandaged him up. Robert ran a hand through his dark hair, green eyes blinking up at dim lights. He tried to recall how many lives were lost at Gabriel. So many good men and doctors lost their lives inside that ship, and he just hoped to the high heaves that now a single beast made it to Abyss. A soft knock had him sitting up. "Yeah, I'm up." He called, watching the door open. A man, around the same age as he was, stepped in with a tray of food. Overloading with food, actually. "Wow. Uh, what's all this?"

Terry shrugged. "Post traumatic eating. Captain's orders." He said with a small smile, pushing the tray on the bedside table. The delicious smell wafted in the air, and Robert dug in. "How bad was it?"

"Bad enough." Robert answered in between bites. "I'll just do a written and audio report. I'm just lucky the door to the documents room was easily jammed from the outside." He said, taking a full of his drink as he continued eating the food in front of humor was amazing how the ship seemed to grow it's own food. Terry sighed.

"When you're done, just leave the tray out the door. Orders were to let you get some shut eye before pulling a report on ya." He said, nodding to his friend. As the door closed, Robert sighed, the piece of bread lowering.

Up until now, he could hear the tortured yells and the rushing footsteps. He could smell the rancid stench of burning. He grit his teeth, laying back on his bed as he tried to wheel the thoughts away. He can continue eating later. Robert's mind raced as he wondered what to do, what happened, which part of the formula was incorrect. A soft sigh escaped his lips.

The smell of food reached him pretty quickly and it only served to increase his hunger. So, he ended up curled up in the vents with hunger pains until the kitchen and dining area finally emptied. Even then, he waited for the ship's activity to die down before he finally crept out of one of the vents in order to search the kitchen. Most of what had been put in the refrigeration unit was leftovers and already cold by the time he found it. However, with how hungry he was, he didn't particularly care. Still, he was careful in what food he took since he wasn't keen on being discovered. Once he had gathered a nice helping of food and water, he squirreled away into the vents again.

After dealing with his hunger, he started moving through the vents towards the living quarters. As he made his way in the darkness, his tail would occasionally touch the side of the vent, making a soft scraping noise. Briefly, this gave him a mental image of what was both in front of him and behind him. While he didn't really know how that worked, it sure was handy. For a moment, he paused and peered into a room, noting someone on a bed. He wasn't sure about where to stay, if he was being honest. The vents made him claustrophobic to a degree, but he still needed to remain hidden.

Frowning, he continued on and came to a room that seemed abandoned, in a sense. Everything was put up nice and neat with a slight layer of dust. Carefully, he undid the vent and poked his head into the room. No one was home and the red indicator on the door pad said it was locked. Slowly, he oozed out of the vent and into a crouch on the floor. Further inspection told him that no one had been in the room for some time. This would work. Standing up, he moved to the pad next to the door and examined it before setting the control to only respond from the inside and to ignore outside commands. If anyone wanted into the room, they'd have to brute force it.

So he had gotten off the research vessel and he had no idea where he was now. In a sense, he'd managed to get himself out of the frying pan, but had he just jumped into the fire?

He had been asleep for a while, Terry had gone in and taken half if his uneaten meal from him while he slept. Robert didn't even stir at the sounds, too asleep and dead to the world as he rested. It was surprising how he managed to get to sleep just after the ordeal, but they guessed once he was thinking properly again, the trauma would keep him awake. In the crew's opinion, Robert was too young to see such carnage, seeing as most of the people in the ship were in their mid-thirties to late forties. Robert was only twenty-five, and pretty young to be exposed to death.

Still, it was a blessing that he slept soundly. Until the faint noises started. It wasn't even obvious, but Robert easily woke up, blinking curiously at the sound continued, then paused. There was the sensation of someone watching and he immediately shook it off before it could escalate. He yawned. "Bath. Bath." He muttered, glad that his room still had a towel and some of his old clothes. That was probably one of the best ideas he'd ever had.

Robert limped out of the room, making his way towards the bathroom when the security light in the room next to his flickered. He paused, giving it a curious look. He had a bad feeling about that door. His ear pressed against the cool surface as he strained for any sound. Upon hearing none that was of alarm, he hummed quietly. "Probably system." He said to himself, making it a point to tell the captain that the red indicator had flickered, so there's a chance that the system encountered an error. It happens occasionally, and must be dealt with before it gets worse.

Clayton had much the same idea with getting cleaned up. He had the dried stasis gunk on him, which was highly unpleasant. The stuff always ended up being slightly tacky, like weak glue. Meaning it was just sticky enough to attract every single speck of dust that had been in the vents. Unfortunately for him, the bathrooms on the ship were communal. While he wasn't the type to be shy about his body, he knew that he couldn't just waltz into the bathroom and take a shower.

Still, the room had spare clothing and he had leftover water. After stripping off the shirt he wore, he dampened a wash cloth and started cleaning off his human skin. It wasn't the best, but it was better than nothing. However, he froze when he sensed life on the other side of the door and heard a faint noise. When the sensation passed, he slowly let out a breath that he didn't realize he'd been holding.

Fetching a fresh shirt, he pulled it on and grimaced. A bit too small, but he supposed that loose clothing might catch while he was in the vents. Slowly, he paced the room, trying to figure out what to do. He had no idea what sort of ship he was on, and there wasn't much information in the room. The only way to find out was to explore, he supposed.

Blandly, he looked at the vent before pulling himself into it again and starting off in a direction.

Cold water always helped him relax, and Robert enjoyed the feeling of the chill in his skin. It was almost, borderline unhealthy, and many times, he nearly caught pneumonia from staying under the chilly spray. He sighed, rubbing his swollen ankle as he washed his hair. He cut his bath short and dressed quickly, his frame shivering from the cold chill. Then, he limped out of the showers and looked around. On one hand, he could return to his room, get some more sleep. On the other, he could finish that audio report of what happened.

Duty won out in the end. He limped back to his room, throwing his things into the laundry chute before making his way to the small labs at the east wing. His old station was untouched, and he almost let out a sigh of relief. Settling himself into his seat, Robert cleared his throat and turned the video recorder on. He pressed his lips together, knowing that he better get on with it fast before he chickens out.

"My name is Robert Farrington, the sole survivor aboard the Gabriel." His voice echoed in the empty space, making his voice sound louder than it should. "Approximately thirty-two hours ago, the crew and I were trying to push through with project Exodus. We had thought that the formula submitted around that time should be enough to sedate and revert the alien DNA, however—" He licked his lips worriedly. "Sample number 05, Who was named Jack Russell, exhibited negative behavior. The transformation sped up and in less than fifteen minutes, he was a full-grown Xenomorph." He said softly, looking away from the camera to gather his thoughts. "We had meant to put him down, but he managed to kill everyone in the room, also releasing all of the samples. I managed to hide in the documents room while sending distress signals. There were no other known survivors."

And with that, he turned the video off. It was sent over to the head bosses, but he was sure they'd ask for more information. Exodus had many other sub-projects, including ability enhancement. He groaned softly, rubbing his face tiredly. So many people had died. He was lucky to have made it out alive. "Tsk." His voice echoed, and the ship looked so much emptier than it really is. Maybe he should try and get back into the Grove of things. Probably. His eyes felt heavy, but he felt like he needed to get something done. Being alone with his thoughts like this was never a good thing.

The ship was expansive to him, but then again, he was used to moving around in hallways instead of vents. No doubt the vents added a bunch more 'room'. Still, he was forming a pretty decent mental map of the ship and was making mental notes of different areas where he could hide should his current lodging area be discovered. In addition, he'd found the hydroponics bay which meant that he could raid fresh veggies from time to time. However, he found it a bit odd that the ship seemed to be running on a bit of a skeleton crew. A ship this size would surely need a larger crew.

As he continued along in the vents, he started noticing examination rooms and holding cells. Labs. A chill went down his spine and caused his tail tip to twitch. It brought up unwanted memories and caused him to realize that he'd jumped onto a research vessel. God damn it all. Sighing, he continued on but paused for a second time when he heard someone speaking. Soon, he was parked in the vent for that room.

Peeking in, he frowned since he recognized the guy as the one that'd been in the room. Some of what was said he didn't recognize, mostly the scientific lingo...But it also gave him an idea of what had happened. More importantly, it gave him a name. Jack. Everyone had called him Rusty for some damn reason. They'd thrown him into stasis as a human. Stifling a sigh, he ran his hand down his face.

This likely meant that he was the only survivor of his squad, not that he'd really call what he was 'surviving'. It honestly made him angry that him and his squad had been used as glorified lab rats, but there was little he could do except wait. The ship would have to either make planet fall or dock with a station, at some point. Lightly, his tail wiggled, betraying his frustration and likely his position in the vent.

Mentally cursing, he quickly and silently started easing away from the vent opening.

The metallic sound jolted him from his half-asleep state and he warily looked around. He could've sworn there was nowhere there. A heightened sense of paranoia left over from the incident had him gulping loudly. "Terry? Mike? You guys up?" He asked, knowing that there would only be two people who would bother checking up on him. Both were pretty close to him in age, but still. The sound.

His head whipped towards the vents. It came from the vents. Hastily, he looked left and right. "Alright, whatever you are, get the fuck out of there. I could hear you." He said, not sure whether he was just paranoid or something. But there was something in the vents. His ears didn't betray him. What if it was a stowaway? "Get out! I—" he reached for the most dangerous looking object in the vicinity and raised it. "— I have a fork! And I'm not afraid to use it!!" Wait, why was a fork in the labs? He needed to speak to Jennifer about leaving the utensils here again.

He had a creepy sensation of being watched, and he hefted the fork higher, feeling cold sweat run down his spine. He could faintly hear movement. "I should call Terry and Rico. We could flush whatever the fuck it is outside of the vents." He said, squinting a little. What if it was dangerous? He scowled.

Like hell Clayton was going to reveal himself. It'd likely end up with him being shot, or worse used an experiment again. After turning a corner in the vent, he remained still. Considering the state of the other ship and the fear in the man's voice, perhaps if nothing happened he'd simply think he was being paranoid and was hearing things. Letting out a slow sigh, he rubbing his face again. He'd barely been on the ship for a few hours and he'd already nearly screwed things up. He was clearly getting sloppy about things. Probably needed some rest.

For the time being, he was going to hunker down where he was at to avoid making any further noise. He could return back to the room once the guy left, or calmed back down. The only good thing about this whole situation was that he had, sort of, learned what had gone on to cause the mess on the other ship. He also knew what kind of ship he was on. His situation hadn't improved, but it hadn't gotten worse. He could work with this.

After ten whole minutes of silence, he lowered the fork and let out a groan before letting a pathetic chuckle escape his lips. "Damn it." He murmured softly, rubbing his forehead. Now, he's paranoid about something in the vents. They'd realize it soon enough too. He groaned again. "Ugh... Gotta pull myself together. Gotta pull myself together." He murmured, shaking his head as he forced himself to calm down. Shakily standing up, he exited the offices and made a beeline towards the containment room, glancing at the samples. The best he could do right now is get in not the rhythm of work.

He found a few files and began taking notes, using what he learned from his previous place to add notes. Sooner or later, he had returned into some semblance of normalcy, even if he still jumped at some of the sounds. Occasionally, he made trios to the kitchen, to get some coffee. And after his third mug, he decided to go for a fourth, humming softly as he gazed at the quiet halls.

"Probably not. Can't spare anymore people anyway." He said, glancing at his empty mug. It would be nice to have more people, however, the Abyss wasn't the only research facility. Not to mention, the ships Raphael and Uriel were constantly in need of men. With Gabriel gone, they'd need to work double. He paused, realizing that his feet had him stopping in front of the kitchen. Quickly refilling his coffee, or his cup of diabetes and Terry calls it, he returns back to his work station, pausing when he realized that there was a dark feeling settling in the pits of his stomach.

In a way, he was able to have a bit of sympathy for the guy, since he'd obviously seen a bunch of shit he shouldn't have. However, Clayton reminded himself that this guy was also one of the scientists who'd been involved with this. So, he couldn't be too terribly sympathetic. Still, he was curious about what this guy was doing. Perhaps if he learned enough, he could sabotage some of the research...Or at least give any of his remaining squad mates the death they deserved. No one should be experimented on as he had been.

So, he silently followed the man from the vents, making sure to keep a decent distance to minimize the sound. This led him to a room which held a number of stasis tubes. Many of the beings held weren't human, and nothing he recognized. However, in one of the tubes, he saw a human and one that seemed familiar. He couldn't act, not yet. It was only after the second time that the man had left that Clayton ventured out of the vents. There weren't any cameras that he could see.

Moving to the stasis tube. Davis. Good man, shitty sense of humor, but a good man. He quickly pulled up the information on the tube and flicked through the options before finding the 'terminate' sequence. It wouldn't release Davis, no...It'd kill him. After a second of hesitation, he activated it before retreating back to the vents. There was another squad mate to deal with. Moments later, the man returned and immediately went back to work, seemingly oblivious to what had happened.

The fourth time he left, Clayton once more left the vents and tended to the other stasis tube. Samson. Didn't really like the guy, but he shouldn't be experimented on. Once more, the termination sequence was initiated. Unfortunately, the scientist had decided to make a quick return. Luckily for Clayton, he got back into the vents in time. The only hint he'd been there was the two stasis tubes which had finished their termination sequence and a loose screw on the floor.

The moment he stepped into the labs, he immediately felt something was wrong. The churning in his gut had only intensified. Sensibly, he set his coffee down before rushing over to the chamber. "Shit. Shit. What the fuck?!" And this had the most progress. He rushed, checking for the vital signs. The two men had died. He groaned softly, before checking the progress on the others. Had he been careless?

They were gone. "Shit. I'm sorry." He said quietly. Damn it. He swore mentally and began to clean up. "Damn it. Damn it all. Fuck." He growled, tossing his papers to the floor and ultimately messing his work area up. No one was around. He knew that. "Shit. Two more weeks. I could've. Two more weeks." He growled, glaring at the progress reports. They looked human already, and yes, sure, they retained the inhuman behavioral attributes, but they were getting closer. He swore loudly again. He stomped off, managing to open the chambers so he could remove the bodies when something crunched under his foot. The metal clang caused him to look down.

"Shit." He said, before scrambling towards the com. "Security Alert, unknown intruder. Ventilation system." He said, not bothering to check whether the mic was blinking in as he scrambled about, trying to access the footage outside the room. What if someone else came in? "Terry? You up? We may have a breach! Davy and Sam have been compromised. Something's in the sh— shit dammit." He swore softly.

Who started deactivating the com?! He growled under his throat in a haze of panic as he tried to get it working. He could be done in any minute. He muttered swear words under his breath as he waited for the mic to go online.

Now, Clayton hadn't touched the other stasis tubes. He'd only terminated Davis and Samson, so anything else that had died wasn't his doing. Then again, he wouldn't put it past the scientists to link up the stasis tubes so that if a certain number was terminated that they all would be. Didn't make much sense to him, but most things scientists did tended to have that effect on him.

However, when the man ran to the com, a spike of panic went up his spine. That was a very easy way for them to find out about him, but he couldn't kill the man. That would almost certainly inform them that he was on board. Letting him alert everyone might be played off as anxiety, but then there would be the evidence of the dead bodies. Maybe knocking him out? Yes, that could work.

Slipping out of the vent, he slinked up behind the other who was frantically trying to get the com to work. Then, he moved to clasp one hand over the man's mouth, put him in a choke hold with the other arm, and use his tail to wrap around them both to keep the man from flailing around. Overall, Clayton's goal was just to cut off the man's blood supply to his brain long enough to render him unconscious.

His nerves were frayed as he frantically got it to work, muttering swears under his breath. Finally, he got the company to blink green. Good. Good. "Security Alert we ha—Ghmph!!" His voice had echoed, but was cut off when in arm snaked around his neck. A hand clamped over his mouth and something cold slid around his body. Robert froze, eyes wide as he stilled completely, forcing his brain to calm down so he could regulate his breathing. The company was blinking readily, and he struggled, trying to dislodge the alien choking him.

His hands clawed at the arms, and he tried kicking with his feet. Adrenalin kicked in and his struggles increased, growing even more in more frantic. He even started biting, acting completely rabid in attempt to dislodge his captor. Managing to get some space to breathe, he took in a gulp of air and let out a loud yell. "HELP!!" Robert screeched, struggling even harder.

Eventually, the panic induced git settled, and he grew limp, nails unlatching from skin as his head lolled backward. It was done though. The sound of people waking up and getting ready to move towards his location was growing louder. The mic blinked innocently. The frantic yell had reverberated within the entire ship, and while he may be found unconscious, there should be enough evidence, hopefully. Robert's body sagged pathetically, waiting for his next gulp of air.

God fucking dammit. Well, maybe he could make it look like the guy had a panic attack over something. Provided he could get the guy unconscious since Clayton was still shaking off the after effects of being in stasis. For short instances, the effects would wear off in a few hours but the longer the stasis, the longer the effects and he had no idea how long he'd been under. It made muscles weak and prone to spasms, which wasn't really great for a combat like situation.

As the man struggled, Clayton kept a first grip on him and relied on his inhuman strength to keep the scientist restrained. The biting was a bit worrisome, but luckily, the skin wasn't broken. His acid blood would have made things very, very unpleasant for the other. While it seemed that he had a good grip on the scientist, the weakness in Clayton's limbs from the stasis allowed the other a brief moment to scream. While it was a brief scream, it was enough. Thankfully, the guy passed out seconds later.

Clayton flicked the com off and quickly positioned the guy under the table, making it look as if he had curled up under it. Glancing towards the door, he retreated back to the vents and secured the grate over the opening. Then, he started making his way back towards the room he had claimed. Time to make himself scarce for the time being. They'd likely try to scan the vents, but it was hard to say if they'd be able to pick up on his unique physiology or not. In any case, it'd be best not to be in there while they investigated.

He didn't know how long he was out, but when he came to, worried faces hovered above him. "Rob. Robbie. You with us?" Terry asked quietly, another, the resident nurse, peering behind him. He could see the sleep-addled, but worried look from Jennifer and the curious look from Richard. He groaned softly, trying to focus. A weak cough escaped from him, and he wheezed. Mike quickly shushed him, taking Terry's place.

"Alright, we're here. Does your head hurt. How many fingers am I holding up?" He asked, going through the procedures. Questions were asked, but once they were done, the nurse helped him up, sighing softly as he did so. "There's a bruise around your neck." He glanced at the others, and Robert could almost hear it. "Alright, what happened?" He asked, just as Jennifer returned with a glass of water. Thankfully gulping the liquid, Robert licked his lips and looked at them with panicked eyes.

"Something's in the vents. It messed with Davy and Sam." He said, before warily glancing at the said vent. Eyes looked at the direction. "I-I don't know. I just went out for coffee then the chambers were terminated. I tried to get them back, but I saw a loose screw and then I tried calling for help who the fuck disables the mic it's for emergencies because something crept in and choked me knocked me out or something it's in the ship—"

"Enough, Robbie. Quiet, son. Come on." Richard, the senior scientist in his late forties said gently. "You're under shock. The pods have been malfunctioning so we're not surprised that it suddenly terminated." He said, trying to calm the panicked man down. "We were supposed to have them repaired, but we received the SOS signal and went back to get you."

Robert's brows furrowed. "But... But the screw. The screw was—"

Terry sighed. "Robbie, you and I both know that the screws fall off." He said gently, trying to calm him down. "But, just to be sure, we're going to do a biological scan of the vents, alright?" He said, making sure Robert was watching an he turned on one of the security computers and scanned the ventilation system. They were treating him with utmost care, and once the machine reported a negative, all eyes turned on Robert.

"But. You've gotta—" He grunted. "There was something."

"You had a panic attack, probably harmed yourself by accident. You were alone. It's normal. We'll clean up here. Why don't you go back to your room for the night?" Richard suggested evenly, watching an the young man looked at them with a weak, broken look. "It's alright." Finally, after enough contemplation, Robert nodded, murmuring a soft apology as he made his way back to his rooms.

At least that's what he made them think. As soon as the door clicked shut, he let out a long breath. Something was hiding in the vents. If not, it was hiding in the rooms. Or one room in particular. He had a hunch, and he was going to follow this hunch. Rummaging his drawer, he took out a taser and a screwdriver, before getting himself up on the bed. "The sensors are often turned off, so I shouldn't worry." He checked the corners, taking note of the fact that the sensors were deactivated.

He hadn't intended to cause a bruise, but it was unavoidable with how the guy had struggled. Still, once he had reached the room, he anxiously paced for awhile and listened for the sounds of he ship going on lock down, or something of that nature. Instead, nothing happened beyond the sounds of people sleepily returning to their quarters. Sighing, he sat down on the corner of the bed, he tail flopped out behind him, and ran his hands through his hair. Fuck that had been close, far too close. He seriously needed to be more careful.

Getting back up, he swiped his hand over the sensor to turn off the lights. Since the ship was quieting down, there wasn't much point in him staying awake. Besides that, all of the activity was causing fatigue to settle into his muscles. He'd been far too active and really needed to rest. Moving back to the bed, he curled up on his side and lightly wrapped his tail around his leg. The room was of a decent enough temperature that he didn't need to cover up.

It took him very little effort to remove the metal grate, and even less effort to shimmy up into the vent. He coughed a few times, scrunching his nose at the dust before turning on the small flashlight at the end of the taser. Skid marks, and disturbances in the dust. Something had been here. He swallowed keeping the light down as he followed the trail. Thankfully, he was small and Slim enough to move without a problem. It was a challenge to crawl around though, and the darkness had him flinching with every sound.

It felt like hours. He had explored the entirety of the ship before deciding to scour the rooms. Based on judgement, the scuffles on the dust indicated that whatever it was, it had peered into the rooms. All except one. The dust was wiped clean with this one, meaning whatever creature snuck in had frequented this room. He swallowed, turning off the flashlight and he got the taser ready.

The metal was quiet as it opened, leaving him nervously holding his breath. It was too dark to actually see anything, and it made him nervous. He gripped the taste tighter, lightly jumping inside the room. His senses were on high alert, and his eyes were squeezed shut. Slowly, he made his way towards the nearest wall, quietly groping for the light sensor.

Between military training and being on high alert most of the time, Clayton wasn't really a deep sleeper. Usually. Unfortunately for him, he was trying to 'heal' from the stasis which meant a much deeper sleep than what he would have preferred. So, he wasn't woken up by the other sneaking into the room. Nor was he immediately woken by the light being turned on. By this point he had somewhat buried himself in the sheets, hiding the inhuman aspect, sans the unusual paleness to his skin.

At a first glance, he could have been considered attractive enough by most. Messy dark red hair, some scruff, and clearly someone who was in shape despite being somewhat lanky. Good ole Earth stock. However, this quickly changed when he shifted in his sleep and his tail flicked off the covers. From his elbows down, the human skin merged into the matte black skin of the xenomorph. Despite this, his forearms and hands were humanesque enough, but the fingers had the same long length. Much like his arms, the skin at his waist did the same. However, instead of keeping a human appearance, his legs had changed into the typical Xenomorph appearance. The only difference was that the limbs were a bit thicker, suggesting some human anatomy still remained.

By this point, the light was starting to rouse him. Making a soft noise, he opened his eyes and squinted at the sudden brightness. More than anything, he was still half asleep and fairly confused.

When the lights flicked on, he whirled quickly, expecting something behind him. The taser sparked it mid-air, but nothing happened. He breathed out. This room was empty, or at least it was supposed to be. His eyes wandered over to the man under the covers. He had seen him before. His face oddly familiar. He knew everyone in the Abyss. Who would thi—

The taste fell to the floor with a loud thud and he gasped, before immediately falling backwards, eyes staring at the fucking tail peeking out from the covers. It was one of the experiment samples. It... No he had one of the most severe cases. A strangled sound escaped Robert's lips as he scrambled towards the door, trying to get out as quickly as he can. "Shit!!" Didn't the room have an emergency alarm?!

His eyes scanned the place, bright green eyes blown wide with panic. He stayed away from the bed, before lunging towards the red emergency button that was supposed to alert everyone of emergencies.

It was the sudden noise that jolted him awake. Despite still being blinded from the light, he was able to 'see' where the other was from the noise that was being made. More than anything, he flailed around, trying to get sleep heavy limbs under him. He desperately needed more sleep and it was showing. Escape would have been a viable route, but the alarm would have still been sounded since he never thought to disable it.

So, he did the next best thing: he pounced. He wasn't intending to harm the man, but he just wanted to knock him away from the alarm or pin him or something just so that he didn't hit the fucking button. Of course, this was all assuming that the guy didn't scramble out of the way and send Clayton face first into the wall. More than anything, it was just a blind leap. As it was, he was expecting to have to retreat to the vents.

He was only a few inches away from the sensor when the hairs at the back of his neck prickled. He hissed then moved slightly to the side, narrowly missing getting humped on. Robert gasped, trembling and he stared at the... The thing had his legs underneath, and as it was, he was pinned down, half his body at least. He yelped, trying to dislodge the alien atop his knees.

In a blind fit, he struggled again, trying to get him to move off before he settled. "Get off." He said, shoving his knees as he tried to wrench them away from the alien. "What the hell? Get off!!" It probably would've been more convincing if his voice didn't crack and fear wasn't forcing him into a frenzy.

Well, at least he had prevented the guy from getting to the button and hadn't slammed into the wall. Now the issues was that he needed to prevent him from screaming his head off. It wouldn't do for the guy to alert the entire ship. Immediately it was a scramble to try and fully pin the guy down. "And let you alert the whole ship? Fuck no." His voice was rough from disuse, but his words were clear enough. Quickly, his tail snaked under him in an attempt to wrap around the other's legs. The last thing he really wanted was to get kicked. Sure, all his bits were internal and shit, but that didn't mean it was really fun to get kicked.

"Now how about you stop flailing around before I actually do something." He growled. Thus far, he had mostly acted in self defense, but he wasn't above ramping it up to actual violence as long as he could make it look like an accident.
