Clint glanced ineffectually at his shoulder as James mentioned it. "Eh... I'm not a fan of stitches. I pull them far too often and then I get in trouble. Besides, it's not even bleeding any more." Liar. Liar, liar, liar. But then James insisted, and after the location of his medkit was extracted from him, he was manhandled over the arm of the couch, legs sprawling behind him. "Kinky," he muttered as one hand held him down, wriggling slightly under the grip.

He didn't stay still for a second, not really wanting to be sewn shut in the slightest, even if it was 'better for him' or whatever bullshit. He wriggled constantly and insistently, finally only stilling with an 'oof' as he was sat on. Instead, he adopted "Are you done yet?", repeating it each time there was a pause in the stitching, half glaring at his dog, who had decided to sit in front of him and adopt his innocent, yet shit-eating, grin, tongue lolling out of his mouth as he watched his human suffer.

Then, finally, he got the news that he was done. "Finally," he groaned, slapping at James' thighs to get him off. "Food should be here soon. Pizza, Lucky!" And then the torture was almost worth it, for the happy bark and tail-wag he received from his dog. "Good boy," he grinned, hanging over the edge of the couch and stretching his newly-stitched shoulder to fuss him.

He didn't even listen to what he said, truth be told. The expression on his face told him all he needed to know about his opinion on stitching him up. And James was not about to hear that. It was his fault that he even got shot in the first place. And it wasn't just guilt either. The guy was a good fighter, clearly handy with a gun and bow, but that didn't change the fact that he was human. He took his own shot to the guts weeks ago and he was still healing-a guy like Clint would take even longer. He wasn't going to potentially leave him open to infection or anything else.

He ignored his grumbling, rolling his eyes at his attempt at humor, but the squirming he couldn't ignore. His hand was steady but that didn't matter when Clint was in constant motion. James finally managed to get him to stop moving, but of course his mouth didn't shut up. A part of him found it all amusing but mostly he just didn't understand him. The close proximity was more clinical than anything at first, but when he found himself staring at the expanse of Clint's back and where it dipped into his jeans, he hurried with the rest of the stitches and pulled. He didn't get what that was about. Surely his body had more important things to think about?

"You're annoying," he informed Clint, though his lips twitched at the sight of Lucky going crazy. He reached over and pet the dog behind his ear. Though when he noticed Clint stretching he immediately turned to him again and gave him his best Winter Soldier glare.

Clint pouted at the glare. "What? I can move, you can't stop me from moving." He jigged his arm up and down to prove his point, concealing his wince behind a grin, though he did stop moving it after that. He reached out his other arm to fuss his dog, and, in sync, they both whipped their heads up in the direction of the front door as someone knocked.

"Pizza!" he grinned, and launched himself over the couch, tripping over his dog at least twice on their race to get to the food, sliding in socked feet over the last few feet, only to slam into the table. "Ow," he winced, then dug some cash out of a jar labelled 'food'. He pulled open the door and brought the food inside, then forked out the correct amount for the guy, fending off Lucky the whole time.

"Hey," he called as he turned back around, intending to use the guy's name, but not knowing which of the many he likely had he preferred. "Grub's up!"

James just raised an eyebrow, knowing full well that he understood his meaning. He was just glad that he actually stopped moving. He had heard the creaking of someone stepping close to the door right before the knock. Whilst Clint and Lucky got up excitedly, he tried to school his paranoid expression into something more bland, and let go of the knife he'd grabbed from the strap in his leg. He sheathed it while Clint made a fool of himself. He watched him, eyebrows furrowing at his games, and just decided to wait for the food to be paid for. The smell was amazing though, and his stomach made a horrible noise, telling him to hurry up and start eating.

He eyed the table, and then the couch, stopping on Clint. "At the table?" His expression was blank, not entirely sure if it was allowed. He wanted to believe it, because everything he did remember from before said exactly that, but he still couldn't brush off the newer memories either. He'd sat at tables knowing full well he didn't get to eat or speak whilst there. The protocol was completely different here, and it was clear the couch was shared space, but the table was something entirely different.

Clint shrugged at the question. "Well... we can, if you want to be boring. I'm not gonna stop you. When I said make yourself at home, I meant it. If you wanted to walk around naked... I think I'd be quite happy with that, I'm not gonna complain about a hot naked guy in my apartment, far from it. You want to eat at the table, you eat at the table. You want to eat in the shower, I wouldn't recommend it, but you can. Okay? Only time I'm gonna tell you to not do something is if it's fucking annoying. So do whatever the hell you want. Okay? No more insecurity about this that or the other."

And with that, he grabbed his pizza, slung a slice to Lucky, bopped James on the nose, then flopped on the couch. He fumbled for a moment trying to find the remote, realised he was sat on it, and squirmed to get comfy before shoving a slice in his mouth and clicking play on Dog Cops. If James sat down next to him, he'd get Clint's feet in his lap, if not, Clint would own the couch, and Lucky would likely end up on his legs begging for pizza. Either way, he was content.

James' eyebrows furrowed in confusion at his words, although the second part of his statement took a second to sink in. He is so fucking weird. He stared at him, unabashedly, and not hiding his bewilderment when his nose was booped. He tensed, of course, but just took a step away from him, unsure if he was going to do it again. "I'm the Winter Soldier," he pointed out, as if Clint didn't know that.

Clearly that was all he was going to say, but James still hesitated for a long second. He sent the table a long look before moving to sit down on the other end of the couch again, pizza box on his lap. He wasn't entirely sure if he believed his earnest suggestions about getting comfortable despite it all. He couldn't get used to this. He'd be leaving soon, anyway.

He tugged out a slice of his pizza from the pie and took a bite, making a small (unconscious) noise at the taste. Oh. This was great. He didn't hesitate to eat the slice in almost two bites, picking up a stray piece of pineapple that fell onto his shirt. He remembered having it before but it looked like pozza had less cheese, at least the one they ordered. That wasn't a bad thing, however. The sauce to cheese to topping ratio seemed perfect.

Clint shrugged mildly. "You're the Winter Soldier, I'm Hawkeye. Nice to make your acquaintance," he returned, then dismissed it with a short "So what? I don't care."

He twitched an eyebrow at the noise James made, grinning a little. "Good, am I right, or am I right?" he asked rhetorically, through his own mouthful of pizza, using the distraction to try and dig his feet under James' thighs, staring him down and almost daring him to go against his actions.

"Hey, Pizza dog," he murmured softly as Lucky nudged at his elbow looking for more food. "Go pester your new buddy, he's got more than enough food to spare. I just have the one pizza." But then he sighed. "Yeah, I know, he's got pineapple. Ew, right?" He held out another slice of his own pizza and scruffed Lucky's fur as he took it with a lopsided grin.

"Hawkeye," he repeated, eyebrows furrowed. "You're an Avenger." He recognized the codename from what he had heard but he wasn't actually aware of how Clint had looked or what his real name was. He was probably the least known of the entire group now that Natasha had leaked information from SHIELD about herself. Clint had only been in the system as any other SHIELD agent and he was rarely seen unless with the others close together in battle. Not that he could blame him. He was a sniper, so he did have better things to do, right?

But it did explain why he wasn't so scared of him. The Avengers were all fucking crazy-being friends with Steve was enough of an indication. And talking to him and treating him like a person told him all that he needed to know about their relationship with each other. He didn't understand why that made him feel uncomfortable, because he wasn't interested in being part of Steve's life, but he did remember being similar to them in that regard once. Steve tended to get people to flock together that wouldn't normally do so.

James sighed and just nodded at his question, taking another slice out of the box, and eating a bite. He turned sharply to Clint when the other's mans feet dug under his leg and squirmed a bit until he had given him more space. He wasn't entirely sure what his personal space issues were but James didn't exactly care to feel guilty because he was using his couch when he'd been offered in the first place.

He glanced at Lucky at the mention of him and turned the box away, perhaps rudely, so the dog couldn't stick his face in it if he got closer. He was starving and the dog probably had eaten more than he had in the last month. He couldn't help but not want to share. Clint's next words made him roll his eyes but he didn't agree or disagree. It was good and he was hungry, that was all he was worried about.

Clint paused and stared at James, mouth full of pizza and yet hand poised to take another bite. He stared for several long moments before saying (through the pizza) - "You really didn't know?" - it came out a bit garbled, but comprehensible, nonetheless.

He swallowed his mouthful and set the half-eaten slice back in its box, closing the lid to prevent Lucky getting in. He wiped his hand on his trousers, then stuck it out for James to shake. "Sorry. I just sorta presume people know who I am now, no secrets, and all that. Clint Barton, pleasure to meet you, I'm also known as Hawkeye. I'm an Avenger and a now-ex-SHIELD agent."

He sat back awkwardly. "But then I guess I shouldn't have presumed, what with you being... brainwashed... and all. I know a bit of what you went through. The bow kinda gives it away, if I'm honest, but if you really haven't a clue, there's nothing you can do about it, is there?

He ran his fingers through Lucky's fur softly, smiling, turning his grin to James. "I'm not saying anything about you having pineapple, it was just a joke," he clarified, not wanting to upset him. "Just saying I don't like it and I won't kiss anyone who's had it unless they've had something in between." Why the hell had his brain gone to that? He needed to shut his mouth before something worse toppled out- "And by that I don't mean I wouldn't like to kiss you, you're an attractive guy, who wouldn't want to kiss you, it's just the pineapple, nothing personal in the slightest, I would very much like to kiss you, I just-" he managed to regain control of his functions. "I'm gonna go get a drink," he excused, then tried to make it look like he was not bolting for the kitchen to flee from the scene of devestation he'd undoubtedly wrought.

James supposed that it would have been obvious had he been anyone else. He had only known the man's codename and weapon of choice. The latter should have tipped him off, but while it was unusual, there were plenty of people who were skilled at it.

When Clint said nothing, James repressed the urge to fidget under his scrutiny and then shrugged at his question.

The hand offered to him simply got a blank stare in response at first but he eventually took it for a shake. Clint's calluses were not unsimilar to his own when he had been a typical soldier. He let go perhaps sooner than polite to.

"Your records aren't in the Avengers file," he informed him with a small frown. It bothered him that he wasn't privy to so much information. He liked knowing the details. Especially now that he was intimately familiar with being kept in the dark in one of the more twisted ways.

He would have continued to shrug off Clint's comment if he had stopped at the first. When the man continued, though, James stopped chewing to look back at him once again. His brain tried to work out the situation with some trouble snd he watched the blond move to the kitchen.

Glancing down at his pizza, he shook his head, not entirely sure how to take that. His memories suggested he should be flattered but wary-no man admitted to such a thing in the past unless they knew they were in similar company. He doubted that had been implied on his part at all considering he wasn't comfortable with it enough for that.

Though, perhaps things had changed in this century? Hadn't he seen a couple holding hands not far from Hell's Kitchen two weeks ago that were both men? It had struck him as odd, since it had not seemed to be a queer neighborhood, but he hadn't exactly been worried about it at the time.

By the time Clint was back, James had all but forgotten Clint's lack of verbal filter, and was much more interested in the future he found himself in. He'd already been disappointed that there were no flying cars but clearly there were still more things to look into.

"I know some things of this century," he admitted, chewing on his pizza. "But not very much. Is it true I can find out everything on the internet?" He was at least aware music was on there.

Clint smiled as James took his hand for a shake, having not expected him to respond, not really, and so didn't begrudge him the early let-go. He pulled back and used the hand for another slice of pizza, cramming it into his mouth in the usual fashion.

"And your file is pretty much empty, Mr. Winter Soldier," he returned. "You wanna play twenty questions? Ask me what you wanna know, and I'll probably tell you. I'm not really a secretive guy. Just, y'know, national secrets and all that bullshit." He stretched and took a bite of pizza simultaneously.

When he returned from getting a drink, setting an unopened bottle of water in front of James, sipping from a glass of his own, he watched the ex-HYDRA assassin as subtly as possible, batting Lucky away from a third slice of pizza. "Pretty much, yeah. I've probably got a spare phone connected to the WiFi if you want to Google shit. I mean, classified things aren't on there, duh, but most things are, 'specially if you know where to look." He glanced back at the TV, pouting as he realised he'd have to restart the episode. Ah well. Talking to James was far more interesting. He clicked it off, then tried to balance the remote on Lucky's head; it didn't last long.

He frowned at the other man, not entirely sure what questions he wanted to ask, if any. The other man certainly made him curious but James was more interested in general things-like why coffee tasted different.

"Um..OK. You first."

The bottle made him blink, not having expected to be brought anything, but he took it and uncapped it quietly to take a sip.

His suggestion made James look up from his next slice of pizza. "That'd be nice," he admitted. "Couldn't use the library." Apparently you needed a library card for that. Which you need an ID to get. The 21st century made some things more complicated than they had any right to be.

Clint lounged back, worming his feet under James' legs again as he thought of a really mundane, kind of boring question. "Uh... What's your favourite colour?" was the best he could come up with for now without getting too personal too quickly. He shoved more pizza into his mouth in the pause.

He waved off the sort-of-thanks. "Nah, 's fine. Libraries make you be quiet, anyway, and look at you weird when you're in full gear. 'Specially when you're a bit mucky and running away from bad guys." He'd had a brief acquantance with his nearest library, when on run from the tracksuit draculas, and had been escorted out after he dripped a bit too much mud, garbage, and blood on the floor, despite his insisting that he was an Avenger. He hadn't been back since. He didn't think he'd be welcomed.

The question made James' lips quirk in amusement. Pretty standard question. However it still took him a second to give a confident answer. There was a part of him that just wanted to blurt out any random color but he also figured there was no point in lying. "I'm not sure," he told him. "Blue, maybe? Dark blue. What about you?"

"I haven't had the opportunity to go in full gear yet but I'll keep that in mind," he told him with a snort. He didn't think he'd be back to the library unless he had someone with him, though. It was all new. And while he was confident that he could manage eventually, going alone anywhere public like that sucked now. It gave him so much anxiety.

He sighed a little bit, trying to think of a question to start with. "Where are you from? You're not from Brooklyn." He fit in with the hustle and bustle of Brooklyn just fine, but he wasn't a New Yorker at all, James would bet. He certainly didn't have the accent either.
